Luther 2 Is Filming in London Right Now — And the First Set Photos of Idris Elba Look Incredible

The grey overcoat is back. The rain-slicked London streets are back. And most importantly, John Luther is back. Fresh set photos and footage have confirmed that Luther: The Fallen Sun sequel is actively filming across the UK — and from what we can see, it looks darker, grittier, and more explosive than ever.

What the Set Photos Reveal

The first glimpse of production shows Idris Elba as Detective John Luther running outside St. Paul’s Cathedral in Central London — away from an exploding car, no less. There’s fake rain, multiple stunt doubles, and an unmistakably gritty atmosphere that signals a deliberate shift away from the icy Icelandic landscapes of The Fallen Sun and back into the claustrophobic, moody heart of London.

Earlier in February, crews were also spotted filming a night-time bike chase near Parkland Walk and Crouch End in North London. The production energy feels urgent, physical, and very much in the spirit of what made the original BBC series so gripping.

The confirmed plot: Luther returns to investigate a series of savage, random killings across the city — while simultaneously being hunted from every direction. He’s the hunter and the prey, all at once.

The Cast Is Stacked

The confirmed returning and new cast members make this one of Netflix’s most exciting 2027 prospects.

Returning: Idris Elba (Luther), Ruth Wilson as the iconic Alice Morgan, and Dermot Crowley as Schenk.

New additions: Anya Chalotra (The Witcher), Kyle Soller (Andor), Niamh Algar (Raised by Wolves), Stephen Dillane (The Hours), and Ian Hart (Harry Potter).

That’s a serious ensemble — and with original creator Neil Cross back at the keyboard, the script is in exactly the right hands.

On top of this, Idris Elba is also separately working on a documentary with King Charles for Netflix later in 2026, making this one of his busiest and most high-profile years yet.
