Love & War Gets Independence Day 2026 Release: SLB’s Epic With Ranbir, Alia & Vicky

Sanjay Leela Bhansali fans, mark your calendars! The director’s ambitious saga Love & War has officially locked its release for August 14, 2026, making it Bhansali’s first-ever Independence Day weekend release. This strategic move gives the star-studded film featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal a prime holiday slot for box office dominance.

Love & War: Overview

Why the Date Shift Matters

Initially announced for Eid 2026 (March 20), the film has been pushed back due to production delays, with approximately 75 days of shooting still remaining. The Independence Day release is actually brilliant timing—set against a war backdrop, this national holiday gives the film an extended theatrical run and perfect thematic alignment.

The postponement also avoids a massive box office clash with Yash’s Toxic, which retained its Eid 2026 slot. Industry insiders are calling it “a blessing in disguise” as both pan-Indian films now have breathing room to succeed.

What We Know About the Film

Love & War promises Bhansali’s signature blend of scale and emotion, combining opulent visuals with deeply felt storytelling in an epic saga of passion, pride, and conflict. While plot details remain under wraps, the film marks significant reunions:

• Ranbir returns to work with Bhansali after his 2007 debut in Saawariya
• Alia reunites with the director following her critically acclaimed performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi
• The real-life couple Ranbir and Alia share screen space again after Brahmastra

According to Variety, the film is being mounted as a grand cinematic experience with elaborate war sequences shot in Mumbai and Italy.

Star Power That Guarantees Buzz

The casting alone makes Love & War one of 2026’s most anticipated releases. Vicky Kaushal brings his action credentials from URI: The Surgical Strike, while Alia and Ranbir come fresh off delivering massive hits. Together with Bhansali’s visual mastery, this trio could create box office magic.
