Everyone’s typing “Lokah OTT release date Netflix” into Google — but here’s the twist: that’s not where it landed. Malayalam cinema’s biggest blockbuster ever made its digital debut on a different platform entirely, and fans everywhere are finally catching up on Chandra’s origin story from home.
Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, directed by Dominic Arun and produced by Dulquer Salmaan, became the highest-grossing Malayalam film of all time after its August 28 theatrical release — and its OTT arrival was one of the most anticipated of the year.
Where To Actually Stream Lokah
Despite the buzz around a Netflix release, Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra premiered exclusively on JioHotstar, not Netflix. Producer Dulquer Salmaan himself publicly shut down Netflix rumors on social media weeks before the official announcement, urging fans to “ignore the fake news.”

Why This Film Is Such A Big Deal
Lokah isn’t just another regional hit — it’s a genre-bending superhero fantasy blending Kerala folklore with modern mythology, centered on Kalyani Priyadarshan’s Chandra, whose calm exterior hides a supernatural identity rooted in ancient legend. It became the first Malayalam film ever to cross the ₹300 crore mark globally, surpassing even “Empuraan” to claim the all-time record.
That kind of box office run made the OTT release a genuine event, with fans eager to relive Chandra’s story — and catch details they may have missed in theaters — from their living rooms.
