Lokah Chapter 2 Gets December 2026 Shoot Schedule: Tovino Thomas Returns

Director Dominic Arun confirmed that Lokah Chapter 2 will begin filming in December 2026, reuniting with Tovino Thomas for the eagerly awaited sequel. The announcement ends months of speculation about the Malayalam superhit’s continuation, promising to expand the dystopian universe that captivated audiences in 2024.

Lokah Chapter 2: Production Details

Why Lokah Deserves a Sequel

Lokah (2024) emerged as Malayalam cinema’s surprise blockbuster, collecting ₹145+ crore worldwide—unprecedented for a regional sci-fi thriller. The film’s dystopian narrative about societal collapse and technological control resonated beyond Kerala, finding audiences across India and international markets.

Tovino Thomas delivered a career-defining performance as Arjun, a resistance fighter navigating an authoritarian surveillance state. The film’s open ending deliberately set up sequel possibilities, with multiple character arcs left unresolved. Critics praised its intelligent screenplay that balanced philosophical themes with commercial entertainment—a rare achievement in Indian science fiction cinema.

Dominic Arun’s Vision Expands

Director Dominic Arun revealed in recent interviews that Chapter 2 will expand the world-building significantly. While avoiding spoilers, he hinted at exploring the origins of the dystopian system established in the first film. The sequel reportedly features larger set pieces and increased VFX scope, justified by the original’s commercial success.

Arun’s methodical approach to storytelling—evident in his previous work Chaaver—ensures the sequel won’t sacrifice narrative coherence for spectacle. The December 2026 shoot timeline allows extensive pre-production, crucial for VFX-heavy projects requiring detailed storyboarding and conceptual design work.

Tovino Thomas: Malayalam’s Bankable Star

Tovino’s transformation from supporting actor to leading man represents one of Malayalam cinema’s most impressive career arcs. Post-Minnal Murali (Kerala’s first superhero film), he’s strategically chosen diverse projects balancing commercial viability with artistic merit.

Lokah solidified his position as Malayalam’s most versatile contemporary star, capable of carrying both intimate dramas and high-concept blockbusters. His production house co-backing Chapter 2 demonstrates financial confidence in the franchise’s longevity—a smart move given the rising demand for Indian IP-driven content.

What to Expect from Chapter 2

While script details remain confidential, reliable sources suggest:

• Expanded cast: New characters representing different factions within the dystopia
• International locations: Portions filmed outside India to showcase the regime’s global reach
• Enhanced VFX: Doubled budget allocation for creating believable futuristic environments
• Deeper mythology: Backstory exploration of how the surveillance state emerged

The creative team reportedly studied dystopian franchises like The Hunger Games and Divergent to understand trilogy structures, suggesting Lokah might extend beyond two chapters if commercially successful.

Malayalam Cinema’s Sci-Fi Renaissance

Lokah Chapter 2 represents Malayalam industry’s growing confidence in genre experimentation. Following successes like 2018 (disaster thriller), Minnal Murali (superhero), and Bramayugam (period horror), filmmakers increasingly embrace high-concept storytelling traditionally dominated by Bollywood and South Indian commercial cinema.

This trend benefits audiences seeking alternatives to formulaic narratives, positioning Malayalam cinema as India’s innovation hub for content-driven blockbusters.
