Lee Min Ho, Park Hae Il, And Yoo Hae Jin Just Reopened A 1974 Cold Case

Some historical incidents never fully leave public memory — they just wait for the right storytellers. Assassin(s), the upcoming film reuniting three of Korea’s biggest names, is doing exactly that, and its first poster drop on July 2 already has fans buzzing.

What’s Assassin(s) About?

The film investigates the mystery and forces behind the August 15 shooting incident that shocked South Korea decades ago. Yoo Hae Jin plays Cheol Gu, a sharp senior inspector at Jungbu Police Station who witnesses the incident firsthand. Park Hae Il takes on Jae Hwan, a newspaper editor who keeps digging despite mounting danger and pressure. Lee Min Ho rounds out the trio as Young Il, an ambitious rookie journalist working alongside Jae Hwan, who also becomes an eyewitness to the event.

The Story Behind The Posters

The newly released posters lean into deliberate ambiguity — a black-and-white frame centered on a hand gripping a pistol, paired with a title that’s pluralized despite showing just one figure. That contrast hints at the lingering suspicions around the official record of the event, deepening the mystery before the film has even released a trailer.

The incident referenced draws from real history: the 1974 assassination attempt on Park Chung-hee, which tragically killed First Lady Yuk Young-soo during a Liberation Day ceremony — a moment that remains one of modern Korean history’s most scrutinized events, making it fertile ground for this kind of investigative drama.

With a cast this heavyweight and a real historical backdrop, Assassin(s) is shaping up to be one of the more anticipated Korean thrillers of the year. While fans wait, Yoo Hae Jin’s earlier hit Exhuma and Lee Min Ho’s The Legend of the Blue Sea remain worth revisiting.
