For those waiting for next-gen AMD laptops powered by the Rembrandt Ryzen 6000 APU, such as the Ryzen 9 6900HX, there is an interesting leak. Sources have offered a lot of information about the AMD Rembrandt APUs, particularly the Ryzen 9 6900HX, which will be one of the fastest Ryzen 6000 chips in the lineup. The Ryzen 5000 ‘Cezanne’ series will be replaced by AMD’s new APU lineup, which includes updates to both the CPU and GPU IPs.

AMD’s Ryzen 9 6900HX APU will include 8 cores and 16 threads on the CPU side. These cores are based on the new Zen 3+ architecture, which is an improved version of the Zen 3 core that uses the TSMC 6nm process.

With the new process node, AMD will be able to squeeze more power out of its laptop CPUs while maintaining efficiency. The chip will have a total of 16 MB of L3 cache and 4 MB of L2 cache. Those hoping for 3D V-Cache technology on laptops will have to wait for a few more generations.

When it comes to clock rates, the chip’s maximum boost clock will be 4.6 GHz, which is the same as the current Ryzen 9 5900HX, but we can expect the Ryzen 9 6900HX to consume less power. On laptops, the CPU will enable DDR5-4800 memory, which will provide a significant improvement in bandwidth over DDR4 memory.

The AMD Rembrandt Ryzen 9 6900HX GPU will receive a significant upgrade. AMD will use its RDNA 2 core architecture, and while we haven’t been told how many RDNA 2 CUs we’ll get on the new chips, we have been told that team red has decided to rename its integrated RDNA graphics. AMD will start using the Radeon 6**M branding with Rembrandt. Radeon 680M is the name of the GPU variant for the Ryzen 9 6900HX. The addition of DDR5 is important for the integrated graphics because RDNA 2 requires a lot of raw bandwidth, and the extra juice from the new memory standard will help.

However, because the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX is aimed at high-performance notebooks, we’ve been told that the majority of designs using this APU will be equipped with NVIDIA’s top GeForce GPUs, such as the RTX 3070 Ti (8 GB) and RTX 3080 Ti (8 GB) (16 GB). Some ASUS designs, such as the ROG Zephyrus and ROG STRIX, have already leaked. AMD will provide more details during its virtual keynote at CES 2022.
