LEAKED: Lionel Messi set to win The Best FIFA Football Awards 2022 ahead of Mbappe and Benzema

Lionel Messi is expected to win FIFA’s The Best Award for 2022, as leaked by renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano. The Argentine has had a phenomenal 22/23 season, and won the 2022 World Cup with Argentina to finally win every trophy available to him.

During PSG’s most recent game in Ligue 1 against Marseille, the 35-year-old scored once and assisted twice in their 3-0 win. And in the process, he scored his 700th career club goal – and his 28th for Paris Saint-Germain.

Messi’s PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe is also nominated for the Men’s Best Player award alongside his former France international teammate, Karim Benzema. The Real Madrid talisman won the Ballon d’Or for winning the Champions League and La Liga with the Spanish giants. He finished the season with the most goals in La Liga and the Champions League, and multiple hat-tricks in the knockout stages.

But ultimately, Lionel Messi is expected to beat Benzema to the award, having won the World Cup and being named the player of the tournament as well.

This season, Messi has scored 17 goals and provided 16 assists in 28 games across all competitions. And while both Benzema and Mbappe have had remarkable seasons, the Argentine has been much more consistent in 22/23. The added success at the World Cup makes him the favourite to win the Best Men’s Player award for 2022.
