Lionel Messi has become the fastest player in MLS history to reach 100 goals for a single club across all competitions, hitting the landmark during Inter Miami’s Campeones Cup final victory over Cruz Azul. According to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Messi reached the milestone with 155 goal contributions in 114 appearances, made up of 100 goals and 55 assists.

How the Milestone Was Reached

Messi opened the scoring in the 24th minute of Inter Miami’s Campeones Cup final against Cruz Azul, heading home a cross from Luis Suárez to bring up his 100th goal for the club. He then turned provider in the 81st minute, setting up Casemiro to seal the 2-0 win and hand Inter Miami their first Campeones Cup title.

There was a fitting symmetry to the milestone: Cruz Azul were also the opponents against whom Messi scored his very first Inter Miami goal, a free kick back in July 2023.

The Fastest Century of His Career

Reaching 100 club goals in roughly 114 to 115 appearances makes this the quickest Messi has ever reached the milestone at any stage of his career. By comparison, it took him 188 appearances to reach 100 goals for Barcelona, and 174 appearances to do the same for the Argentina national team.

Messi’s 100 Inter Miami goals have come across a spread of competitions, including 76 in MLS league play, 14 in the Leagues Cup, eight in the Concacaf Champions Cup, and further goals in the FIFA Club World Cup and now the Campeones Cup.

Part of a Wider Record-Breaking Run

This milestone is separate from an earlier MLS record Messi set back in May 2026, when he became the fastest player to reach 100 regular-season goal contributions in league history, doing so in just 64 MLS matches, comfortably beating the previous record of 95 games held by former Toronto FC forward Sebastián Giovinco. That mark was based on MLS league goals and assists alone (59 goals, 41 assists at the time), distinct from this new all-competition club goalscoring record.

Since joining Inter Miami in July 2023, Messi has also netted his 900th career goal earlier this year and remains among the league’s Golden Boot contenders again this season.

Silverware to Match the Numbers

The Campeones Cup triumph adds to a growing trophy cabinet since Messi’s arrival in South Florida, following the 2023 Leagues Cup, the 2024 Supporters’ Shield, in a season that saw Inter Miami set the MLS record for points, and the 2025 MLS Cup.

Teammate Rodrigo De Paul reflected on playing alongside Messi daily, saying it has become “a normality” for the squad even though what he does remains anything but ordinary, adding that his teammates try to appreciate and enjoy having him on the pitch while they can.
