KL Rahul becomes the first Indian player in IPL history to score 500 runs in three consecutive seasons

Match 36 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) probably witnessed one of the best games of cricket in the history of the sport as Kings XI Punjab defeated the Mumbai Indians in the second super over of the game.

Mumbai Indians put up a challenging score of 176 runs on board. Kings XI Punjab paced it’s chase properly to score an exact 176 runs. Both the teams had a tie in the super over as well which lead to another super over. Finally, KXIP was able to get the better of it by winning the second super over.

Amidst such historical events, one impressive accomplishment was made which went a bit under the radar. KXIP skipper and current orange cap holder KL Rahul became the first Indian batsman to score 500 runs in three consecutive IPL seasons. He became the third overall to join the elite company of David Warner and Chris Gayle.

KL Rahul has been consistently performing and has been the lone warrior for KXIP. We take a look at his stats.

IPL 2018 – This was Rahul’s debut season for the KXIP. He scored 659 runs in 14 matches at an average of 54.91 with six half-centuries.

IPL 2019 – He pushed it a notch higher by scoring a century to go along with his six fifties as well. He scored 593 runs in 14 matches with an average of 53.90.

IPL 2020 – Rahul saved the best for last as he has already scored 525 runs in only nine innings at an average of 75. He has already scored one century and five half-centuries.

Interestingly, the afternoon match between the Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad ended in a super over as well. Kolkata Knight Riders were able to defeat the Sunrisers to take home two valuable points. Therefore, the Super Sunday featured 3 super overs in one day making it probably the best day of cricket in the history of the sport.
