Because it becomes difficult for new competitors to displace well-established manufacturers in the solid-state drive industry, Kingston and Adata have long led the market in terms of retail SSD shipments. However, it appears that after only a few years on the market, Gigabyte rose to become one of the Top 10 retail SSD producers.

Brand recognition is important in retail, which is why Kingston, Adata, Kimtigo, Lexar, and Transcend have been in TrendForce’s list of the Top 10 manufacturers of SSDs for a long time.

However, Kingston’s market share decreased somewhat in 2021 to 26%, most likely as a result of the sheer number of businesses servicing the same sectors as Kingston does. However, according to TrendForce, the other top 3 makers improved their rankings. With a 6% stake, Lexar, which is not currently affiliated with Micron, is ranked fourth. Just a touch lower than Lexar is Netac.

Gigabyte, on the other hand, found itself in the No. 9 position with a 3% market share after only a few years in the business and many drives that wound up on our list of the best SSDs. Similar to Kimtigo, Colorful focuses primarily on China and has an even greater market share at 4%. Powev, who has a 4% share, is the final new Top 10 entry.

Solid-state drives are currently offered by hundreds of companies due to the relative ease of production and expanding demand. But because there are so many brands out there, there is fierce competition as everyone tries to provide the finest combination of value, quality, and performance. Companies that manufacture 3D NAND memory have an advantage over pure-play SSD houses for obvious reasons because they have their chips and understand how they operate. They know how to make sure that drives that use their memory perform at a consistently high level.
