Plot Overview: Courtroom Courage in Colonial India

Unlike most period dramas that rely on warfare, Kesari Chapter 2 centres around a battle of intellect and integrity. The film traces C. Sankaran Nair’s efforts to expose British accountability for the brutal massacre at Jallianwala Bagh. A former President of the Indian National Congress and one of India’s earliest legal visionaries, Nair defied colonial intimidation and sought justice through law.

Based on the acclaimed book The Case That Shook the Empire by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, the story also highlights the rise of Indian nationalism and the collective courage that sparked the independence movement.

Akshay Kumar takes on the central role of C. Sankaran Nair, bringing gravitas and empathy to the portrayal. R. Madhavan essays the part of Neville McKinley, who represents British Crown interests in the court. Ananya Panday plays Dilreet Gill, a spirited lawyer who aligns with Nair in his battle against injustice.

Regina Cassandra portrays Nair’s wife, Palat Kunhimalu Amma, grounding the narrative with emotional depth. International actors such as Simon Paisley Day, Alexx O’Nell, and Steven Hartley round out the cast, reflecting the story’s multinational scope.
