Kerala Blasters 2-1 NorthEast United: 3 talking points as KBFC continue title challenge

Kerala Blasters managed to keep the pressure on league leaders Hyderabad FC with a routine 2-1 win against NorthEast United. Here are three key talking points from the game.

A game of equal halves

While there wasn’t anything to show for on the scoresheet in the opening 45 minutes, the second half was a much more eventful period. Kerala Blasters managed to get back into their rhythm in the second period and scored the first goal around the hour mark, courtesy of Jorge Ortiz.

They came back to strike once more in the 82nd minute, after going a man down. Alvaro Vasquez across from his own half, doubling their lead with a sensational strike.

But despite Ayush Adhikari being sent off for a second yellow, things didn’t change too much for them.

NorthEast United’s woeful run continues

After earning a playoff berth last season, it seems like the Highlanders will end the season at the bottom of the table this time around. Their winless run has continued into another month, and things don’t look good for them in the slightest. Although they scored a consolation goal in the final minutes of the game, it was too little, too late for the team.

Title challenge continues for Kerala Blasters

Despite facing a side near the bottom of the table, Kerala Blasters had to put in the hard work to come away with the win. They are only three points behind Hyderabad FC with a game in hand, and could be tied on points if they win their next match.

The game between the two title contenders on 23rd February will be the key clash to determine the fate of the ISL title this season.
