Karim Benzema sustained a thigh injury in France’s international friendly against Bulgaria. It was the last of the friendly games for the world champions before the Euros kick off; they are scheduled to travel to Munich for their opening game of the tournament against Germany. Les Blues, who cruised through the previous game against Wales with a scoreline of 3-0, replicated that effect against the Bulgarians. Griezmann buzzed in with the opener on the 29^th minute, as Olivier Giroud netted a brace after coming on for Benzema at the 41^st minute. With the 4-time UCL winner in their ranks, France have sure transformed into a lethal force for almost any opposition. Their front three in Karim Benzema, Antione Griezmann, and Kylian Mbappe are looked upon as the driving force that could fetch them European glory this time around.

With a squad occupied by nothing but quality players in every position, Didier Deschamps will be hopeful again after coming ever so close in 2016. Their defense is stacked with players like Lucas Hernandez, Raphael Varane, Presnel Kimpembe, Kurt Zouma, and Clement Lenglet. Players like Paul Pogba, N’golo Kante, Corentin Tolisso, Adrien Rabiot, and Moussa Sissoko boost that midfield depth to a level only matched by few. Their attacking trio keep players like Ousmane Dembele, Kingsley Coman, Thomas Lemar, and Olivier Giroud on the bench.

Karim Benzema was understandably devastated as he came off in tears, since he was in the middle of shaping up one of the most astronomical comeback stories in world football. The Real Madrid striker, who scored 30 goals and added 9 assists in the 2020-21 season for his club, was gradually becoming an indispensable figure in that strike partnership with PSG’s Mbappe. France, who feature in the group of death with Germany and Portugal, will hope for the Veteran striker to be fit as rapidly as possible.
