Karan Johar’s Met Gala 2026 Debut Is Really a Love Letter to Shah Rukh Khan

Filmmaker Karan Johar finally made his grand debut at fashion’s biggest night, but what truly broke the internet wasn’t his stunning outfit — it was his heartfelt tribute to his closest friend, Shah Rukh Khan.

KJo’s Emotional Words That Went Viral Instantly

Standing on the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Karan Johar told the media: “For me, it’s so emotional. Shah Rukh is a large part of my career repertoire. I have done my first five films with him, and he’s the reason I stand here today. So, for him to have come last year and me this year, life feels like a complete circle.”

That’s not PR talk — that’s decades of brotherhood distilled into one raw, unscripted moment.

The Outfit: Indian Heritage Meets Global Glamour

For the event, Karan collaborated with his long-time friend and ace designer Manish Malhotra to create a look inspired by legendary Indian painter Raja Ravi Varma — arriving in a vintage-inspired black velvet jacket layered over a dramatic, floor-length hand-painted cape.

KJo put it beautifully: “Raja Ravi Varma felt right because his work does something I’ve always tried to do in cinema. He painted feelings.”

One More Sweet Moment

When asked what he looked forward to most at the event, Karan revealed his daughter wants him to meet Sabrina Carpenter — adding, “if I get to meet her, I’ll win many brownie points.”

Even at the Met Gala, he’s just a dad trying to impress his kid. We love that for him.
