Kara has officially made its OTT debut, with the Dhanush-starrer beginning to stream on Netflix from May 28, 2026. The Tamil crime thriller moved to streaming less than a month after its theatrical release, giving the film a relatively quick digital turnaround.

Directed by Vignesh Raja, Kara stars Dhanush in the lead role alongside Mamitha Baiju and K.S. Ravikumar. Netflix lists the film as a 2026 drama-thriller and describes the story as one about a thief trying to go straight before being pulled back into crime by his father’s debt and the pressure of a determined cop.

The film originally released in theatres on April 30, 2026, before making its way to Netflix on May 28. That means the gap between theatrical and OTT release was just under four weeks, which is increasingly common for films that want to maximise digital momentum quickly after their cinema run.

For viewers simply asking when and where to watch, the answer is now clear: Kara is available on Netflix, and its OTT release date was May 28, 2026. Multiple entertainment and tech outlets confirmed the same release date in the days leading up to the streaming debut.

What Kara Is About

Netflix’s official synopsis says: “A thief tries to go straight, but when predatory banks trap his father in debt, he returns to crime — with a determined cop closing in on his trail.” That sets the film up as a morally conflicted crime drama rather than a conventional mass-action entertainer.

Reports around the film’s release have also described Kara as a gritty Tamil crime thriller with heist elements. Mint specifically described it as a heist thriller and noted that it arrived on OTT after its theatrical run.

Netflix lists Dhanush, Mamitha Baiju, and K.S. Ravikumar as the leading names on the title page. Additional cast names listed on the platform include Karunaas, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jayaram, M.S. Bhaskar, Prithvi Pandiarajan, Sreeja Ravi, and Aadukalam Naren.

The film is directed by Vignesh Raja, with entertainment reports also identifying him as the creative force behind the project during both the theatrical and OTT release phases.

Netflix Availability And Language Options

Netflix’s title page shows Kara available with Tamil as the original audio, along with additional audio options including Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam and Telugu, depending on region and platform settings. The title page also lists the film under genres such as Indian crime, drama, thriller and social-issue drama.

That wider language support should help the film perform beyond the Tamil-speaking market, especially given Dhanush’s pan-Indian visibility and streaming popularity. This multilingual rollout is now standard for major South Indian titles on Netflix, but it remains a key reason such films often find a larger second life online than they do in theatres.

Why The OTT Release Matters

The OTT release is especially important for Kara because the film’s core appeal — dark tone, crime plotting and character-driven conflict — often works well on streaming, where audiences can discover it without opening-weekend box office pressure. Media reports leading into the OTT release framed it as one of Dhanush’s notable digital arrivals of the month.

For Dhanush, the Netflix launch also keeps him firmly in the streaming conversation at a time when his filmography continues to travel across theatrical and OTT audiences with equal strength.

If you were waiting for the Kara OTT release date, the wait is over. Dhanush’s Kara is now streaming on Netflix from May 28, 2026, after first hitting theatres on April 30. With a crime-thriller setup, a strong supporting cast and Vignesh Raja in the director’s chair, the film now has a wider digital audience to find after its theatrical phase.
