South Films in June 2026

The Films — Briefly Explained

1. Peddi (June 4 — Telugu) The most anticipated South film of the month. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi revolves around a spirited young man from a village regarded as a legend across cricket, wrestling, and running, who strives to make a name for himself through the talent he’s honed over years. Ram Charan stars alongside Shiva Rajkumar, Janhvi Kapoor, and Boman Irani. Shiva Rajkumar has even publicly said he hopes Ram Charan wins a National Award for this one — that’s how highly the team believes in it.

2. Parimala and Co (June 5 — Tamil) A dysfunctional middle-class family finds itself caught in a mysterious situation, and as chaos unfolds unexpectedly, they must do everything in their power to escape it. Jayaram and Urvashi lead this comedy drama from director Pandiraaj — a crowd-pleasing family entertainer.

3. Mollywood Times (June 5 — Malayalam) The film follows a young man who dreams of becoming the best horror filmmaker in Malayalam cinema, inspired by M. Night Shyamalan, and focuses on the challenges he faces in pursuit of his dream. Naslen carries this charming coming-of-age comedy that’s already got Kerala’s youth excited.

4. Mango Pachcha (June 5 — Kannada) The story follows Prashantha, an ambitious youngster who begins as an ordinary DVD store owner in Mysuru between 2001 and 2011, and as he descends into the bad world, driven by unapologetic ambition and life-altering incidents. Think a gritty Kannada origin story with real period flavour.

5. Sing Geetham (June 11 — Telugu) Set in a remote and mysterious village untouched by time, the film follows Prathap, who arrives seeking a better future, only to find himself caught in a conflict between modern development and the village’s deeply guarded traditions. Veteran director Singeetam Srinivasa Rao returns to helm this musical fantasy.

6. Varavu (June 12 — Malayalam) Set in a hillside town ruled by power and influence, one incident triggers a chain of events that tears a family apart — and years later, one man returns to reclaim what was taken from him in a reckoning that will decide the fate of the entire town. Shaji Kailas directs Joju George in this mystery action thriller — think old-school Malayalam mass cinema with emotional depth.

7. Maa Inti Bangaaram (June 19 — Telugu) The film follows a woman visiting her husband’s family for the first time in two years without their blessings — and as she struggles to become the “perfect homemaker,” her past comes knocking, forcing her to use her elite combat skills to protect her family. Samantha Ruth Prabhu looks set to deliver a career-defining performance in this BV Nandini Reddy action comedy.

8. Jana Nayagan (June 19 Tentative — Tamil) Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before he steps away from cinema. The story revolves around Vetri Kondan who wants to raise his foster daughter Viji into a strong and courageous army officer, while protecting society as an old enemy resurfaces. Bobby Deol and Pooja Hegde co-star. The emotional weight of this being Vijay’s last film makes it unmissable.

9. Balan: The Boy (June 19 — Malayalam) The film follows a teenage boy navigating a turbulent childhood and desperately searching for closure after his mother’s mysterious disappearance. A quiet, emotionally driven drama featuring a special appearance from Tovino Thomas.

10. Lenin (June 26 — Telugu) The film centers on deep-rooted family feuds, with the protagonist grappling with his father’s teachings about legacy, reputation, and how a person is remembered after death. Akhil Akkineni leads this action drama that directly clashes with Peddi at the box office — making June’s Telugu theatrical scene especially fierce.

According to Wikipedia’s overview of South Indian cinema, the industry collectively produces more films annually than any other regional cinema in India, with Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada industries each carving out distinct cinematic identities. June 2026 is a perfect showcase of exactly that diversity.
