Leaks, delays, piracy, and only average word-of-mouth — “Jana Nayagan” faced nearly every obstacle a film can face before release. And yet, Thalapathy Vijay’s box office pull is proving strong enough to carry it well past the Rs. 200 crore mark anyway.

Jana Nayagan: Second Tuesday Numbers

Jana Nayagan collected Rs. 2 crore on its second Tuesday, a steep 52 per cent drop from the previous day. That brought its second week’s cume to Rs. 33.50 crore in 5 days, with the film now looking to close the week around Rs. 37-38 crore.

The film’s overall running total has reached Rs. 212.25 crore gross at the Indian box office, and it’s expected to close this week around Rs. 217 crore. Directed by H. Vinoth, the movie will need to hold reasonably well through its third week — competition arrives soon with Suriya’s “Vishwanath & Sons” releasing on August 14.

Day-Wise Collection Breakdown

Day 8	Rs. 4.50 crore
Day 9	Rs. 10.00 crore
Day 10	Rs. 12.75 crore
Day 11	Rs. 4.25 crore
Day 12	Rs. 2.00 crore (est.)
India Total	Rs. 212.25 crore

A Strong Finish Despite The Odds

The film is expected to finish its India run somewhere around Rs. 230-235 crore — a solid outcome for a movie that faced delays, leaks, and heavy piracy on top of just average word-of-mouth. Under most other circumstances, a film facing this many setbacks would likely have struggled to cross even Rs. 50-100 crore. That it’s closing in on Rs. 235 crore instead speaks to the sheer star power Vijay commands, a dynamic that has defined much of Tamil cinema’s star-driven box office culture for decades.
