Is Ritika Sajdeh Really Yuvraj Singh’s Sister? The Truth Behind Cricket’s Most Confusing Relationship

When photos of Ritika Sajdeh tying rakhi to Yuvraj Singh went viral during Raksha Bandhan celebrations, cricket fans worldwide were left scratching their heads. Is Rohit Sharma married to Yuvraj Singh’s sister? The internet exploded with confusion, and the question “ritika sajdeh yuvraj singh relationship” began trending. Let’s uncover the fascinating truth behind one of cricket’s most misunderstood bonds.

Ritika Sajdeh & Yuvraj Singh

The Real Story: From Client to Rakhi Sister

Ritika Sajdeh and Yuvraj Singh are NOT biological siblings. Their bond is purely an honorary rakhi relationship that developed through years of professional association and mutual respect. Here’s how their unique connection began.

The Professional Beginning

Before becoming India’s cricket captain’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh worked as a sports event manager, handling brand endorsements and contracts for prominent cricketers. Among her earliest clients was none other than Yuvraj Singh, the explosive all-rounder who became a national hero during India’s 2011 World Cup triumph.

Working closely together on various events and brand deals, Ritika and Yuvraj developed a strong professional rapport that gradually transformed into genuine friendship. Over time, Yuvraj began treating Ritika with the protective affection of an older brother, eventually adopting her as his “rakhi sister”—a traditional Indian honorary sibling relationship celebrated during the festival of Raksha Bandhan.

The Infamous Warning That Started Romance

The most entertaining chapter in this story involves how Ritika Sajdeh Yuvraj Singh’s protective bond nearly prevented one of cricket’s sweetest love stories. In 2008, during a professional shoot, a young Rohit Sharma encountered Ritika for the first time. What should have been a simple professional meeting turned into an awkward moment, thanks to Yuvraj’s brotherly instincts.

As Rohit recalled during an episode of the popular show Breakfast with Champions, Yuvraj Singh immediately pulled him aside with a stern warning: “She’s my sister, don’t even look at her.”

A baffled Rohit quickly responded that he’d only come for the shoot and had no intentions regarding anyone. Little did Yuvraj know that his protective warning would become cricket folklore, as Rohit and Ritika eventually fell in love despite—or perhaps because of—this memorable first encounter.

Why Fans Thought They Were Real Siblings

The confusion intensified when viral Raksha Bandhan photos showed Ritika tying the ceremonial rakhi thread on Yuvraj’s wrist—a ritual typically performed between biological siblings. Headlines proliferated across social media, with many assuming Rohit Sharma had married into Yuvraj Singh’s family.

However, the practice of rakhi extends beyond blood relations in Indian culture. Many people celebrate rakhi bonds with close friends, mentors, or colleagues who hold special places in their lives. For Ritika and Yuvraj, their rakhi relationship symbolizes years of friendship, professional collaboration, and mutual respect—not DNA.

Their Actual Family Trees

Yuvraj Singh’s Real Siblings:

• Zorawar Singh (brother)
• Victor (half-brother through father’s second marriage)
• Amarjeet Kaur (half-sister through father’s second marriage)

Ritika Sajdeh’s Real Family:

• Kunal Sajdeh (brother)
• First cousin to renowned sports agent Bunty Sajdeh
• Related to actress and former Bigg Boss contestant Seema Sajdeh (Sohail Khan’s ex-wife)

How the Warning Led to Love

Ironically, Yuvraj’s protective stance couldn’t prevent destiny. Due to technical issues with Rohit’s microphone during that 2008 shoot, he had to return for a reshoot—giving him another chance to interact with Ritika. This time, she impressed him with her kindness and professionalism.

As Ritika began managing Rohit’s brand endorsements personally, their professional relationship blossomed into friendship and eventually romance. They dated for six years before Rohit proposed at Mumbai’s Borivali Sports Club—the very place where he’d started his cricket journey at age 11.

The couple married on December 13, 2015, in a grand celebration at Taj Lands End, Mumbai. Today, they’re proud parents to daughter Samaira (born 2018) and son Ahaan (born 2024). Throughout Rohit’s captaincy journey, including India’s T20 World Cup 2024 victory, Ritika has remained his steadfast support system, often spotted at matches with her signature fingers-crossed ritual.

Why This Bond Matters

The relationship between Ritika Sajdeh, Yuvraj Singh, and Rohit Sharma beautifully illustrates how modern Indian society blends traditional values with contemporary relationships. Their story shows that chosen family—whether through professional bonds turning into rakhi relationships or love blossoming from workplace connections—can be just as meaningful as biological ties.

Yuvraj’s protective instincts toward Ritika, though they created initial awkwardness, stemmed from genuine affection and respect. Today, all three share warm friendships, with Yuvraj having witnessed Rohit and Ritika’s love story from its amusing beginning to their happy family life.
