Is Netflix Buying Lionsgate? Inside the Streamer’s Next Big Swing

Netflix just struck out twice in Hollywood’s biggest bidding wars this year, missing Warner Bros. Discovery and losing Roku to Fox. Now, a fresh report suggests the streamer isn’t licking its wounds, it’s reportedly circling Lionsgate next.

Lionsgate-Netflix Report: Key Facts

From Builders to Buyers

Netflix spent years insisting it builds original IP rather than buying legacy studios. That changed during its pursuit of Warner Bros. Discovery, with Ted Sarandos admitting the company “really built our M&A muscle” in the process. The appetite hasn’t gone away, it’s just found a new, cheaper target.

Why Lionsgate Fits the Bill

Unlike the Warner Bros. mega-deal, Lionsgate offers a smaller, more digestible win: a ready-made film and TV library without the risk of internal chaos a giant merger could cause. The Starz spinoff already cleared away the messiest part of any past deal talk, and Netflix has been quietly deepening ties with Lionsgate anyway, licensing shows like The Hunting Wives and premiering Ripple late last year. An outright acquisition would hand Netflix ownership of major franchises outright instead of just borrowing them.

Streaming consolidation has been the story of 2026, and Netflix circling Lionsgate is just the latest chapter. If you’re tracking how the industry keeps reshuffling, our coverage of the surprising Disney and Netflix co-production deal on TechnoSports is worth a read too.
