The Bit That Broke the Internet

Before their return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday, Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans took the Dolby Theatre stage to present the awards for Best Adapted and Original Screenplay.

But it was their banter — not the awards — that had everyone talking. Evans pointed out they were approaching the 14th anniversary of the original Avengers film and revealed he’d got Downey Jr. a signed copy of the original script from the entire cast — though, of course, it was “backstage.”

Downey Jr. played along, offering his own gift — a valet parking ticket — before later rushing from backstage to hand Evans “the official tanning thong from Magic Mike,” prompting Magic Mike star Channing Tatum to joke from the audience that he’d need it back.

Pure gold.

The MCU is gearing up for a huge year, with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day releasing on July 31 and Avengers: Doomsday hitting theatres on December 18. Khel Now The Oscars reunion felt like the perfect, unscripted warm-up act for what’s coming.

Oscars producer Katy Mullan had teased the moment in a press conference earlier that week, hinting at a Marvel reunion with “superstar superheroes” and even an extraterrestrial on stage. Khel Now
