GT vs CSK Venues Swapped: Democracy has spoken — and the IPL schedule has had to listen. The BCCI just made a last-minute but significant change that fans of both Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings need to know about immediately.

If you’ve already planned your trip to the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to watch Gujarat Titans host Chennai Super Kings on April 26, it’s time to rethink those plans. The BCCI has officially announced a revision to the IPL 2026 schedule — and the reason is as Indian as cricket itself: elections.

OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT 🚨

Why the BCCI Had to Act

The change has been necessitated in view of the municipal corporation elections in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat scheduled on April 26, 2026 — a day that would have seen the Narendra Modi Stadium buzzing with cricket fans while much of the city’s civic machinery was tied up managing polling logistics. Holding a marquee IPL double-header on the same day as local elections in that region was simply not viable from a security and logistics standpoint.

So the BCCI has done what it always does when democracy and cricket collide in India: it adapts. The GT vs CSK fixture originally scheduled for April 26 in Ahmedabad will now be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, while the CSK vs GT match originally slated for May 21 in Chennai will shift to Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium as an evening game at 7:30 PM IST.

In other words, the venues haven’t disappeared — they’ve just been swapped. Ahmedabad gets its CSK game in May. Chennai gets Gujarat Titans in April.

What It Means for Fans

For CSK fans in Chennai — and there are many — April 26 just became an even more exciting date. The MA Chidambaram Stadium’s yellow-clad crowds make it one of the most electric home venues in world cricket, and seeing Ruturaj Gaikwad’s men go up against Shubman Gill’s Gujarat Titans at Chepauk in an afternoon fixture is the kind of fixture fans in the city will descend on in droves.

For Gujarat Titans fans, the Narendra Modi Stadium — the world’s largest cricket venue — will host CSK in a prime-time evening slot on May 21 instead. Big venue. Big match. Worth the wait.
