Apple analyst Jeff Pu has reversed his earlier prediction about the iPhone 17’s processor, now confirming the base model will feature an A19 chip instead of the previously rumored A18. This latest development adds clarity to the iPhone 17 lineup just two months before its official launch.

Analyst Reversal Details

A few months ago, Pu said the device would have an A18 chip, but he has now reversed course. In today’s investor note with GF Securities, Pu stated: “We now expect the iPhone 17 model to be equipped with A19 (vs. earlier expectation of A18).”

iPhone 17 Series Chip Lineup

Model	Processor	Previous Rumor
iPhone 17	A19	A18 (reversed)
iPhone 17 Air	A19	A18 (reversed)
iPhone 17 Pro	A19 Pro	Consistent
iPhone 17 Pro Max	A19 Pro	Consistent

Conflicting Air Model Reports

Despite Pu’s latest update, rumors remain conflicted about the iPhone 17 Air specifically. A Weibo account known as Fixed Focus Digital said the iPhone 17 Air will be equipped with an A19 Pro chip, instead of an A19 chip. However, this source suggests the A19 Pro in the Air model would have a 5-core GPU, compared to the 6-core GPU expected in Pro models.

What This Means for Users

The A19 chip upgrade represents a significant performance boost for the base iPhone 17 compared to earlier expectations. This change suggests Apple is maintaining stronger performance parity across its lineup, reducing the gap between standard and Pro models.

Timeline and Expectations

Just two months to go until the iPhone 17 series is official, making September 2025 the likely launch window. The chip reversal indicates Apple’s commitment to ensuring all iPhone 17 models receive next-generation processing power.

Market Impact

This processor upgrade could make the base iPhone 17 more appealing to consumers who want flagship performance without Pro pricing. The A19 chip will likely deliver improved AI capabilities, better camera processing, and enhanced gaming performance.

Industry Context

The rumor reversal reflects the fluid nature of Apple’s supply chain decisions and manufacturing priorities. With multiple sources providing conflicting information, the final specifications remain subject to change until Apple’s official announcement.
