iPhone 12 or iPhone 13: Which One Should You Choose?

In the dynamic world of smartphones, selecting the perfect model can be quite a challenge. With price reductions on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, they’re now appealing options for bargain hunters. This article will compare the two and help you decide.

iPhone 12 vs. iPhone 13

Price and Availability

iPhone 12 vs. iPhone 13

Apple retained the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 in its lineup after the iPhone 14 launch, offering them at reduced prices. The iPhone 13, available in 6.1-inch and 5.4-inch models, is the newer of the two, featuring superior chipsets, enhanced cameras, and extended battery life compared to the iPhone 12. The iPhone 13 starts at INR 59,990, while the iPhone 12 is priced at INR 48,990. Additionally, the iPhone 13 and 13 mini offer more storage for the same price compared to the base iPhone 12 model, starting at 128GB instead of 64GB.

Design and Display

Design-wise, there isn’t much to differentiate the iPhone 13 from the iPhone 12, except for a smaller notch on the former. Both models share the same flat edges and durable Ceramic Shield displays. The iPhone 13 introduces some new color options, whereas the iPhone 12 offers a more limited selection. The iPhone 13, however, boasts brighter displays with improved visibility, even though the iPhone 12 captures slightly more colors.

Camera

The camera system is a significant differentiator. Both models feature a 12MP main camera, but the iPhone 13’s camera has a larger sensor, enabling it to capture 47% more light for sharper images. Both iPhone 13 models benefit from sensor-shift optical image stabilization, a feature previously exclusive to the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Night Mode is available on both, with the iPhone 13 showing slightly better performance in low-light photography. The iPhone 13 also offers a unique video feature, Cinematic mode, absent in the iPhone 12.

Performance

Under the hood, the iPhone 13 models run on the A15 Bionic chip, an upgrade from the A14 Bionic in the iPhone 12. The A15 chip provides better performance, though real-world differences may not be dramatic. The iPhone 13 models also offer broader 5G band support, making them compatible with more carriers and regions.

Battery Life and Charging

The iPhone 13 comes with a 3,227 mAh battery whereas the iPhone 12 comes with 2,815 mAh battery. Charging speeds remain the same, with 15W MagSafe wireless charging and 20W wired charging. Neither model includes an included charger.

Verdict

The iPhone 13 outshines the iPhone 12 in almost every aspect, offering better storage, faster performance, camera enhancements, and extended battery life. If you prefer a larger screen, the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 is likely your choice. Although the iPhone 14 brings further improvements when considering the iPhone 13 vs. iPhone 12, the iPhone 13 offers an overall better package, with the exception of price. If you’re currently in the market for an iPhone, the iPhone 13 is a strong contender that combines performance, camera capabilities, and value.
