Apple just updated the seventh-generation iPad mini with an A13 Pro chip, 8GB of RAM, and Apple Pencil support including hover support. The sixth-generation iPad Air was announced earlier this year with the M2 chip, support for larger screen size, and Apple Pencil Pro.

iPad Mini vs. iPad Air: Which One to Get

With its all-screen display design, lack of a Home button, and top-mounted Touch ID and stereo speakers, the iPad mini is very similar to the current-generation 10.9-inch‌ ‌iPad Air‌. Despite hailing from different product lines, the iPad Mini and iPad Air are nearly identical in terms of specifications and color choices. That said, there are a few key differences between the two models; mainly in sizes of displays and chipsets.

If you’re trying to decide whether the more expensive, bigger iPad Air or the lower-priced, smaller iPad mini is a better fit for you, this guide is here to help. The key differences between these two devices are listed here.

For the vast majority of users, this makes the iPad Air a better option as it provides enough display real estate for work and play, in a more portable form factor. The iPad mini starts at $499, only $100 less than the 11-inch ‌iPad Air‌, which offers a larger display and M2 chip, as well as Stage Manager support to line it up with a laptop when connected with Magic Keyboard.

However, many buyers of the iPad mini are drawn to its compact size. The iPad mini excels at reading ebooks, and playing handheld games, and is easy to transport and store. Buyers typically have specific use cases in mind, such as using the Apple Pencil for note-taking on the go, easily fitting it into a small bag for public transport, or gifting it to a child as their first tablet.

If the iPad mini’s smaller screen, lightweight design, and one-handed usability don’t suit your needs, you may prefer the iPad Air, especially now that it offers a 13-inch option. The iPad Air is a more versatile device that can double as a laptop replacement with Stage Manager support, making it ideal for productivity and entertainment with its larger display.
