Crazy rumor: Upcoming iPad Air 5 to sport M1 chip & 5G

According to a recent source, Apple’s iPad Air 4 launched in 2020, and whatever features or additions you thought were missing from the tablet would be included in the upcoming iPad Air 5, which is slated to ship in Spring later this year.

According to Mac Otakara, a reliable source in China, the iPad Air 5 will keep the same housing like its predecessor. As a result, the upgraded slate will come with thinner bezels but no Face ID.

A side-mounted power button with Touch ID integration is expected, so those who don’t miss facial recognition will like this security feature. Apple will save money on production by keeping the iPad Air 5’s chassis the same, allowing the company to stay within a reasonable pricing range for users.

According to the source, the iPad Air 5 will include 5G support, a feature that was sorely lacking on the iPad Air 4, especially because the iPad mini 6 already had it. In addition, the A15 Bionic is expected to power the tablet’s internals, which will be a step forward over the A14 Bionic. Aside from that, according to the rumor, a new 12MP ultrawide front-facing camera with Center Stage support would be included.

Unfortunately, the back camera may remain unchanged, implying a single sensor. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman had predicted that the 2022 iPhone SE would be released in March or April. If his reveal predictions are correct, the iPad Air 5 might be released around the same time as Mac Otakara’s. We suspect Apple will issue a press release instead of holding a full-fledged event to reveal this product, as it has done in the past.
