Intel Raptor Lake Core i9-13980HX shows outstanding performance in the new Cinebench R23 test

MSI sent Jarrod two of their latest enthusiast laptops for a quick overview. These are the GE78 Raider and GT77 Titan, which are both outfitted with flagship components such as the most powerful GeForce RTX 4090 GPU and Intel’s 24-core Core i9-13980HX processor. While it is stated that we are looking at engineering samples, the final performance should not differ significantly at this point.

MSI debuted its new laptop lineup at CES 2023, and two of their premium gaming laptops, the MSI GE78 Raider and G77 Titan, were placed in Cinebench R23 for early benchmark testing to check the performance of the Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU that these mobility powerhouses pack.

These laptops support MSI’s 250W Overdrive technology. This allows the graphics and CPU power budgets to be shared. Both systems feature the unlocked (Max-P) variant of the RTX 4090 GPU, with a default TGP of 150W that can be increased by up to 25W via Dynamic Boost.

The comprehensive testing, conducted by the YouTube channel Jarrod’s Tech, demonstrated not only the new Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU but also the strength of MSI’s mobility design. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 graphics cards have a base TGP of 150W, which can be increased to 175W with Dynamic Boost to achieve peak boost TGP levels. Each system includes the proprietary 250W Overdrive, which allows the systems to balance graphics and processing power while sharing the massive load.

In Cinebench R23, the Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU scored 30498 points for multi-core testing and 2135 points for single-core testing.

The Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU found in the MSI Titan GT77 and MSI Raider GE78 HX has the same configuration as the Intel 13th Generation Core i9-13900K processor. The Intel i9-13980HX has a TDP of 55W at idle and 157W at full load. The Intel i9-13900K has a base TDP of 125W and a peak TDP of 253W while operating at 5.8 GHz. The mobility chip has a peak clock speed of 5.6 GHz.

MSI intends to release the MSI Titan GT77 and MSI Raider GE78 HX laptops on February 8, 2023. Pricing for the two laptops has yet to be announced, but it will most likely be revealed on launch day.
