Some teams ease into a tournament. India’s men’s volleyball squad has kicked the door down. After beating Vietnam, they swept Hong Kong 3-0 at the Asian Games 2026, and they haven’t dropped a single set yet. Here’s how it unfolded and what’s next.

| Next up | India vs Qatar, Pool C finale (Tuesday) |
| Tournament window | September 27 to October 3 |
How the Match Unfolded
Set 1 (25-22): The closest set of the day. Hong Kong pushed hard, but India stayed calm when it mattered and took it by three points.
Set 2 (25-19): India led 13-10 early, never let go, and closed out a comfortable six-point win.
Set 3 (25-21): Hong Kong needed this set to stay alive. India didn’t let them, finishing the job in straight sets.
Across the three sets, India’s margins of victory were three, six and four points. That’s steady, controlled volleyball rather than a lucky streak.
The Numbers Behind the Streak
Add both matches together and the picture gets even stronger. India have won all six sets, scoring 150 points to their opponents’ 126. Their win over Vietnam took one hour and 24 minutes. Winning cleanly matters because straight-set wins save energy for later rounds.
What’s on the Line?
The men’s tournament has 16 teams split into four groups of four. The top two from each pool advance to the quarter-finals after the round-robin stage, and classification matches decide the final ranks.
India face Qatar on Tuesday in the Pool C finale. Two wins are a great start, but this match could decide the group standings. Expect it to be the toughest test so far.
Meet the Squad
The Volleyball Federation of India picked a 12-member squad for the 20th Asian Games. Setter Muthusamy Appavu is the senior figure, alongside Jerome Vinith Charles and Muhammad Nihal Chatham Kulangara. The rest of the group is Chirag, Amit, John Joseph Eanthungal Joseph, Joel Benjamin Jebaraj, Anand Kottarathil, Om Vasant Lad, Ashwal Rai, Shikhar Singh and Erin Varghese.
