India continued their medal run in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, after Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia won gold medals in their respective categories.
Inside the first four round, Bajrang Punia won three of his four bouts. And after utter domination in his matches, he won his third medal at the Commonwealth Games after bagging the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
Naurau’s Lowe Bingham, Mauritius’ Jean Guyline Joris Bandou, Geroge Ramm and Lachlan Maurice McNeil fell victim to the wrestler as he strided to win his gold medal and extend India’s tally.

Sakshi Malik won her first Gold medal at the competition, after a remarkable comeback performance. She first pinned Kelsey Barnes before Berthe Emilienne was defeated on technical superiority. She was trailing 0-4 during the finals of the competition, but was able to turn things around under pressure to clinch her first gold in three attempts.
Deepak Punia was able to extend India’s gold medal tally at the 2022 Commonwealth Games by dropping only one point as he won the 86kg category.
He opened his campaign with a win over New Zealand’s Matthew Clay Oxenham, followed by Alexander Moore of Canada by a 3-1 scoreline. Pakistan’s Muhammad Iman succumbed to the Chhara village wrestler in the final, and Punia won the match 3-0.
India now have nine gold medals in the 2022 Commonwealth Games, with three in wrestling.
