The news was confirmed on April 7, 2026, by TMKOC producer Asit Kumarr Modi, leaving fans and the industry heartbroken.

He described Bhim Vakani as someone who had a family-like bond with the show’s team, always visiting Modi’s home whenever he came to Mumbai. Modi credited him as a major pillar behind daughter Disha’s success as Daya Behen, one of Indian television’s most loved characters.
Bhim Vakani also made special guest appearances in TMKOC himself, playing Mavji Chheda, a close friend of Champaklal Gada — a role that endeared him to millions of viewers all over again.
It’s worth understanding the cultural significance of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah — one of the longest-running Indian sitcoms — to appreciate just how deeply this family was woven into the fabric of Indian television. You can read more about the show’s history on Wikipedia.

A Note on Disha Vakani and Her Future on TMKOC
Disha Vakani, who stepped away from the show in 2017 following her marriage and has been on maternity leave since 2018, remains one of TMKOC’s most missed stars. Producer Modi has expressed that while the door remains open for her return, he has also acknowledged the challenges she faces, noting he may eventually introduce a new Dayaben if she cannot come back.
Our hearts go out to Disha Vakani and the entire Vakani family during this difficult time. 🙏
