Indian smartphone industry set to sell 49.9 million units worth $16.9 billion during festive quarter

India's ultra-premium smartphone market witnessing intensified competition | 60-80% of the growth is driven by Apple

The Indian smartphone industry is expected to earn more than half of its revenue in October-December 2021 by selling over 49.9 million smartphones worth 1,252 billion or $16.9 billion during the said festive quarter, according to Techarc.

The sales contribution of the quarter in terms of revenue and volume is estimated at 56% and 32% respectively, it said.

The revenue contribution will be driven by the ‘premium segment'(25,000-50,000 INR), with the segment contributing 51.7% of the total revenues during the quarter.

By volume sales, however, the ‘mid-segment(12,000-25,000) INR will drive the contributions with 42.1% smartphones selling in this segment.

The research firm said in a note, “The channel contribution is witnessing a shift where mid, premium, and luxe category smartphone sales are increasing compared to the earlier view where the basic segment would drive online sales.”

At the same time, there are a plethora of options of 5G smartphones available in the online channels. Flipkart and Amazon are offering 56 and 52 smartphones on their platforms, respectively.

Samsung tops the list with the highest number of 5G smartphone models available(20), followed by Realme with 12 models, Xiaomi, Oppo/Vivo, and Apple.
