First Innings: India Women Post 159/9

India Women, electing to bat first, started strong with Smriti Mandhana leading the charge. However, regular breakthroughs from the West Indies bowling attack prevented them from building momentum.

• Smriti Mandhana: 62 off 41 (9 fours, 2 sixes)
• Richa Ghosh: 32 off 17 (5 fours, 1 six)

Mandhana’s brilliant knock set the tone early, finding boundaries at regular intervals. She partnered well with Richa Ghosh, whose quickfire innings provided much needed acceleration. However, the middle order faltered against tight bowling spells from Deandra Dottin and Hayley Matthews.

Key Bowling Highlights:

Dottin’s disciplined spell and Matthews’ ability to pick up key wickets restricted India to 159/9 in their allotted 20 overs.

Chasing 160, the West Indies Women were off to a flying start, thanks to Hayley Matthews’ breathtaking innings. The captain led from the front, playing a destructive yet composed knock of 85*(47), which included 11 fours and 3 sixes.

• Hayley Matthews: 85* off 47 (11 fours, 3 sixes)
• Qiana Joseph: 38 off 22 (6 fours)

The pair of Matthews and Qiana Joseph completely dominated the Indian bowling attack, stitching a crucial partnership that left India with no answers. Matthews, in particular, unleashed a series of powerful strokes all around the ground, punishing loose deliveries with precision.

Key Bowling Highlights for India Women:

• Saima Thakor: 3-28-1

Despite a brief breakthrough by Saima Thakor, India’s bowlers struggled to contain the aggressive West Indies batters. Matthews and Joseph’s partnership ensured that West Indies sealed the match comfortably with 26 balls to spare.
