India wins a Hat-Trick of Gold Medals at the World Youth Archery Championship

Young Indian archers had a fantastic day at the World Archery Youth Championships on Saturday, winning three gold medals in the compound cadet men’s, women’s, and mixed team events. The competition’s 16th edition is taking place in Wroclaw, Poland, and activities are being held in two categories.

In the final, the cadet women’s team defeated Turkey 228-216 to win gold. The Indian squad consisted of Parneet Kaur, Priya Gurjar, and RidhiVarshini. They put on a strong performance at the Championships to throw Turkey off their game.

About the Championship

The World Youth Archery Championships in 2021 was the 16th edition of the competition. World Archery organized the event, which took place in Wroclaw, Poland from August 10 to 15, 2021. Junior events were held for those under the age of 20, while Cadet events were held for those under the age of 18. India was the best-performing country.

Priya made history by becoming the first Indian archer to win three medals at a World Youth Championships. India’s previous best showing was in Mexico in 2006, when its archers won five medals, including one gold. Sakshi Chaudhary won silver in the junior women’s individual event. Rishabh Yadav took bronze in the junior men’s individual event.

India’s Performance

The cadet men’s team followed in their footsteps by defeating the USA in the final. In a thrilling final, India’s cadet men’s team of Kushal Dalal, Sahil Chaudhary, and Nitin Apar shocked the top-seeded USA, winning 233-231.

In the cadet mixed team final, it was also a battle between the Indians and the Americans. Priya Gurjar and Kushal Dalal partnered up for India against Brielle Ochnich and Sawyer Sullivan of the United States. India won by a score of 155-152 in a close battle.

India had a mixed day in the individual events at the World Archery Youth Championships, despite their team triumphs. In the cadet women’s individual final, Priya Gurjar was defeated by Mexico’s Selene Rodriguez. The Indian archer lost by a razor-thin margin of 139-136. In the bronze medal match, however, Parneet Kaur defeated Hallie Boulton of Great Britain. Kaur was on the winning side with a score of 140-135.

Sakshi Chaudhary experienced sorrow when she lost a nail-biting junior women’s gold medal match. In the final, the Indian girl was defeated 141-140 by Croatian Amanda Mlinaric. In a similar battle, another Indian, Rishabh Yadav, came out on top. The young Indian defeated Sebastian Garcia of Mexico in the junior men’s bronze medal match, winning 146-145.
