The wait is almost over for Indian cricket fans. India will begin their World Cup 2027 campaign against defending champions Australia on October 7 in Cape Town. The 14th edition of the tournament runs from October 2 to November 21, 2027, across South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. It is the first World Cup in Africa in 24 years.

2PakistanOctober 10Johannesburg
3AfghanistanOctober 14Tshwane

How the Tournament Works

India will play five group matches against the other five teams in their pool. The top three sides from each group advance to the Super 7 stage, and the top four from there reach the semi-finals.

India’s Road to 2027

India qualified directly and currently sit at the top of the ODI rankings, which makes them one of the favourites. Since losing the 2023 final to Australia, they have won the T20 World Cup in 2024 and 2026 and the Champions Trophy in 2025. A win in 2027 would be their fourth consecutive ICC title and their third ODI World Cup, after 1983 under Kapil Dev and 2011 under MS Dhoni.

India ODI World Cup 2027 Schedule: Why It Matters

The opening clash with Australia is a rematch of the 2023 final. The India vs Pakistan game on October 10 will draw the biggest audience of the group stage.
