Six-Fold Growth in a Decade

TRAI data reveals remarkable growth trajectory over the past ten years:

  • November 2015: 13.15 crore (131.49 million) subscribers
  • November 2025: 100.37 crore (1 billion) subscribers

This represents more than six-fold expansion, demonstrating India’s rapid digital transformation and accelerating internet adoption across urban and rural regions.

Jio

Jio’s Market Dominance

Reliance Jio maintained its commanding position with 51 crore total broadband subscribers, comprising 49.69 crore wireless users and 1.35 crore fixed-line connections. This gives Jio approximately 50.8% market share—an absolute majority in India’s broadband landscape.

Jio also led wireless subscriber growth in November with a net addition of 13.88 lakh customers, taking its mobile base to 48.6 crore.

Airtel’s Strong Second Position

Bharti Airtel secured the runner-up position with 31.42 crore broadband subscribers—30.42 crore wireless and over 1 crore wired connections. Airtel added 12.15 lakh net mobile subscribers during November, maintaining steady growth momentum.

Together, Jio and Airtel command over 82% of India’s broadband market, underscoring the duopoly’s strength.

Vi and BSNL Trail Behind

Vodafone Idea (Vi) reported 12.77 crore wireless broadband subscribers but continued facing challenges, losing 10.11 lakh mobile subscribers in November. This decline pushed Vi’s total mobile base below the 20 crore mark to 19.97 crore.

BSNL registered 2.94 crore wireless and 44.5 lakh fixed-line broadband connections, contributing to the state-run operator’s gradual recovery efforts.

Overall Telecom Subscriber Base

The total telecom subscriber base (voice and data combined) grew to 123.45 crore in November, consisting of:

  • 118.74 crore wireless connections
  • 4.7 crore wireline connections

The wireline segment saw steady growth, rising from 4.675 crore in October to 4.705 crore by November’s end. Jio led wireline additions with 1.7 lakh new subscribers.

Digital India Progress

This milestone reinforces India’s position among the world’s highest data-consuming nations, with average monthly wireless data consumption reaching approximately 24 GB per subscriber and median mobile broadband speeds exceeding 130 Mbps.
