Icebreaker on Netflix: Daisy Jelley and Connor Simos Lace Up for TikTok’s Hottest Rink Romance

If your “For You” page was ever swallowed by a skating-and-hockey romance, you already know the name. Netflix is turning Hannah Grace’s TikTok-famous novel Icebreaker into a series, and the two leads are finally official. Here’s everything we know, without the fluff.

Icebreaker : Overview

The Story: Two Teams, One Rink, Zero Chill

Anastasia Allen is a competitive figure skater who transfers to the University of California, Maple Hills, chasing Olympic gold. Nate Hawkins is the charming captain of the hockey team, with his eyes on the NHL.

Anastasia can’t stand him, and then an accident forces both teams to share one rink. She also has to deal with her controlling former skating partner, Aaron. Netflix’s official log-line sums up the tension neatly: discipline gives way to obsession, because the only thing more dangerous than wanting to win is wanting each other.

Meet Your New Leads

Daisy Jelley (Anastasia) is a familiar face for YA fans. She plays Poppy Hepple-Cartwright in Geek Girl, a role she reprises in Season 2 later this year. You may also know her from How to Date Billy Walsh on Prime Video and the British drama How to Have Sex (2023).

Connor Simos (Nate) is the fresh face here. He doesn’t have a long filmography yet, though he starred in the indie action movie Subversion. Casting a newcomer as the campus star could pay off, since fans often love a discovery.

Why Netflix Is Betting on Ice?

Netflix has skated this rink before, with mixed results. Spinning Out (2020) was well received but cancelled after one season. Then Finding Her Edge arrived in February 2025 and was a big hit, and its second season is now filming.

There’s one key difference. Icebreaker is a much more mature novel than Netflix’s YA skating offerings, and it’s known for its on-page sexual content. Expect a grown-up romance rather than a teen drama. The book also has follow-ups, Wildfire (2023) and Daydream (2024), so there’s plenty of source material for multiple seasons.

What Should You Do While You Wait?

• Read the book first. It’s the fastest way to catch the show’s inside jokes.
• Watch Finding Her Edge. It’s a good taste of Netflix’s skating world.
• Catch Geek Girl Season 2 to see Daisy Jelley back in action later this year.
