HP Study: Indian Parents Prioritize Eco-Friendly Products and Climate Concerns

A recent HP Study reveals that Indian parents are increasingly inclined towards sustainability and are willing to invest extra in eco-friendly products. The study sheds light on parents’ concerns about climate change, indicating a significant shift in their mindset regarding purchasing decisions, career choices, and family planning. HP has also released its 22nd annual Sustainable Impact report, outlining the company’s progress towards ambitious environmental and social goals.

Gurpreet Singh Brar, Vice President of HP India, expressed delight in witnessing the transformation in Indian parents’ mindset, emphasizing their deep concern and growing awareness about climate change. The study highlights that a majority of Indian parents actively prioritize sustainability, with 80% of them willing to pay more for environmentally friendly items. They seek out businesses with sustainable practices (84%) and prioritize purchasing sustainably sourced items (85%).

Rising temperatures and costs rank high among the climate change concerns of Indian parents. Mothers (19%) show heightened worry about the impact of having children compared to fathers (8%). This concern has significantly influenced the perspectives of both mothers (63%) and fathers (56%), as well as the younger generation. Notably, 66% of Generation Z and 60% of Millennials feel that their climate change concerns are influencing their plans for expanding their households.

The study also reveals that 61% of Indian parents consider a company’s environmental practices crucial when making career choices. Over half of them (58%) have either changed companies or reconsidered their place of work due to a commitment to sustainability initiatives. This reflects a growing awareness among Indian parents of the important role that companies play in driving positive change.

HP’s 22nd annual Sustainable Impact report highlights various initiatives, including the mobile IT labs program called World on Wheels (WoW) that provided digital learning and skills training to over 650,000 people in India in 2022. HP has reduced its carbon footprint by 18% since 2019 and aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2040. The company has also made significant progress in reducing single-use plastic packaging, promoting digital equity, and empowering communities.

Paloma Cavalcanti, HP Inc.’s Asia and Americas Markets Sustainability Customer Success and Business Development Manager, expressed pride in the positive impact HP has made in India through programs like Girl Rising, the Digital Equity Accelerator, and HP World on Wheels (WOW). The company remains dedicated to social impact, sustainability, and building a better future for all.

HP aspires to be the most sustainable and just technology company, with aggressive goals in Climate Action, Human Rights, and Digital Equity. The 2022 report showcases progress in these areas, including a net zero carbon value chain, a circular economy, and initiatives that promote equality and digital empowerment for marginalized communities.
