Building a powerful Fighting-type team in Pokémon Legends Z-A? The iconic Machop evolution line remains one of the most reliable choices for trainers exploring Lumiose City. While catching Machop and evolving it to Machoke is straightforward, obtaining the four-armed powerhouse Machamp requires a special method. Here’s everything you need to know about securing this classic Fighting-type trio.

Pokémon Legends Z-A Reference: Machop Evolution Line

Machop	Wild Zone 8 & 12	Catch in the wild	Mid-20s (Zone 8), Mid-30s (Zone 12)
Machoke	Wild Zone 12 or Evolution	Level up Machop to 28	Mid-30s (wild spawn)
Machamp	Trade Evolution	Trade Machoke with code 0126 0126	N/A

Finding Machop in the Wild

Machop appears as a fairly common spawn in Wild Zones 8 and 12, making it easy to add this Generation 1 staple to your team. As a pure Fighting-type Pokémon, Machop has been beloved by trainers since the original Red, Blue, and Yellow versions.

Pro Tip: Both Wild Zones contain powerful Alpha Pokémon and aggressive wild creatures that will attack on sight. Clear the area of other Pokémon first, or use stealth to approach Machop without drawing unwanted attention. This strategic approach will make catching your target much smoother.

Evolving Machop into Machoke

Machop evolves into Machoke at level 28, maintaining its Fighting-type classification. Since wild Machop appear in their mid-20s in Zone 8 and mid-30s in Zone 12, reaching the evolution threshold won’t take long.

Shortcut Option: If you’re exploring Wild Zone 12, you can skip the evolution process entirely by catching a wild Machoke directly. However, ensure your party is high-level enough to handle the challenging encounters in this area.

The Trade Code System: Getting Machamp

Here’s where things get interesting. Machoke cannot directly evolve into Machamp and must be traded to evolve, following the classic trade evolution mechanic from the main series.

Game Freak implemented an elegant solution through the Trade Code system, accessible via the Link Play menu. The Trade Code for Machoke is 0126 0126—an eight-digit code that matches you with another player looking to evolve their Machoke.

How Trading Works in Pokémon Legends Z-A:

Open your menu and select Link Play
Choose the Trade option
Select Faraway Players tab
Enter the code: 0126 0126
Both players swap Machokes and receive evolved Machamps

This system allows random online players to exchange the same Pokémon type simultaneously, ensuring both trainers get their desired evolution. No need to coordinate with friends—the community-driven code system handles everything automatically.
