Houssem Aouar close to joining Nottingham Forest with Lyon contract expiring in 2023

Nottingham Forest are close to signing Lyon midfielder Houssem Aouar by the end of the transfer window. The Premier League returnees have signed over 14 players since gaining promotion, and are not done yet.

They have just signed Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis, and Neil Maupay could be on his way to the club in the coming days. The French midfielder could join the Premier League at last, with only 12 months remaining on his current deal with Lyon.

The player was linked with a switch to Arsenal and Chelsea in the past, but a move to either club never materialised owing to a price tag in the region of €40 million. But now, Lyon might be forced to agree to a cut-price deal for their man with a free transfer being the other option if he stays and doesn’t renew.

Newcastle United were rumoured to be interested in signing him this window, but the likelihood of a move looks minimal. Houssem Aouar was also being discussed as a potential signing by Real Betis. However, nothing solid materialised there either.

This could be the last opportunity for the midfielder to seal a move away before the transfer window slams shut on August 31. Nottingham Forest recently got their first win back in the Premier League, with a 1-0 win against West Ham United at the City Ground.
