Horizon Forbidden West debuts its story trailer ahead of its launch

Horizon Forbidden West is set to release on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in just over a month, and Sony is boosting up its marketing efforts with a new trailer that reveals more about the sequel’s plot. Unsurprisingly, the movie is chock-full of stunning visuals while also providing some insight into what appears to be a solid expansion of Horizon Zero Dawn’s deep plot.

“People are suffering. Soon, they’ll starve,” protagonist Aloy (Ashly Burch) says at the beginning of the trailer. “The machines, meant to help us, are out of control. I have to find a way to fix it all. The answer is somewhere out in the Forbidden West.” We soon learn that, in that part of the world, war is the order of the day, so Aloy has another difficult journey ahead.

There are some new characters in the teaser, both friendly and hostile, in addition to some familiar faces like Varl and Erend. Regalla, played by Angela Bassett, is one of the antagonists. She’s a rebel leader who “seeks to slay all those who have mistreated her,” and she’s been given the ability to manipulate robots by a returning character. The three-minute film ends with a glimpse of Tilda, an enigmatic character. Carrie-Anne Moss, who starred in The Matrix, will play her, according to Guerrilla Games.

Naturally, several of the machines Aloy will face feature in the video as well. The Slithering, a scary huge cobra-rattlesnake hybrid that can spit acid in her direction, is one of them. Overall, the trailer provides yet another tantalizing glimpse into a much-anticipated game. Given that an unfinished build allegedly leaked earlier this month, fans should tread carefully to prevent spoilers before the February 18th release of Horizon Forbidden West.
