Merlin’s Miraculous Return From Death

Episode 3 opens with Merlin running through forests as a prisoner of Pelleas. The twist? Merlin was dead, and somehow Pelleas brought him back to life. Even Lord Aurelius confirms seeing Merlin die, making his resurrection impossible yet undeniable.

When Merlin encounters the aged Dafyd, the monk’s shock confirms the miracle. Dafyd reveals that both Hafgan and Elphin have died during the 75-year gap, leaving Merlin as the last connection to the old world.

The Emotional Mother-Son Reunion

The episode’s ending delivers the emotional payoff viewers craved. After escaping through dangerous forests with Pelleas and Dafyd, Merlin returns to the hut from episodes 1 and 2 — the same place where Dafyd originally found his mother, Charis.

Throughout the episode, Charis is notably absent from conversations despite being Merlin’s mother. This deliberate omission makes her appearance in the final moments even more powerful. After 75 years and a resurrection, the immortal son of an Atlantean princess finally comes home.

The reunion suggests Charis may have been waiting, knowing her prophetic son would return.

The Sword of Britain and Arthur’s Promise

Merlin encounters the legendary Sword of Britain in Aurelius’s possession. His prophetic vision reveals kings in a circle with the blade rusted and forgotten — this weapon belongs to the future High King.

This establishes the “Summer Kingdom” and sets Arthur’s eventual rise in motion.

Merlin’s Prophetic Powers Prove True

Merlin demonstrates uncanny knowledge throughout episode 3. He correctly predicts a lord’s death, debunks dragon myths by revealing underground springs, and knows intimate details about strangers.

Many dismiss him as fae folk, but his prophecies prove accurate. The lord who ignored Merlin’s warnings dies exactly as predicted during an enemy attack.
