We’ve been hearing speculations for a while that the iPhone 14 Pro won’t have a notch, and this week, a leaker going by the handle @dylandkt said that Face ID technology will be relocated beneath the display as a result.
Instead of a notch, the leaker claims that iPhone 14 Pro versions will have a pill-shaped camera cutout at the top of the display, rather than the circular hole-punch design previously speculated. The image above is a mockup of how this new design would look.
Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg reporter, joined The MacRumors Show podcast this week to talk about everything we can expect from Apple in 2022, including details on several major releases.
In the newest issue of his “Power On” newsletter, Gurman discussed his hopes for Apple in 2022, which included iPhone 14 Pro variants without a notch, a revamped MacBook Air with an M2 processor, a new iPad Pro with wireless charging, an AR/VR headset barring any further delays, and more.
Another rumor this week stated that Apple is testing various foldable iPhone prototypes, but that the company is concerned about the quality of folding display technology and whether there is a long-term market for foldable devices, according to leaker @dylandkt.
Apple is expected to produce a foldable iPhone with an 8-inch flexible OLED display as early as 2023, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, but 2024 is also a possibility.
In the first quarter of 2022, Apple is widely expected to unveil a third-generation iPhone SE. The handset is likely to have the same outward design as the present iPhone SE, with 5G capability and a speedier A15 CPU as important additional features.
Apple is preparing a greater update to the iPhone SE for 2024, according to leaker @dylandkt, with the smartphone having a similar look to the iPhone XR and iPhone 11.
According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple expects to debut the second-generation AirPods Pro in the fourth quarter of 2022, with changes including a redesigned design, lossless audio compatibility, and a charging case that can emit a sound if it is misplaced.
The upcoming AirPods Pro, like the third-generation AirPods announced in October, is expected to offer enhanced battery life and a water-resistant charging pouch.
Intel announced new 12th-generation Core processors for laptops this week, claiming that the new Core i9 CPU is not just quicker than Apple’s M1 Max chip in the 16-inch MacBook Pro, but also the fastest mobile processor ever.
Of course, a meaningful comparison with the M1 Max chip will have to wait until we see how the 12th-generation Core processors perform in real-world testing.
