Vikram Bhatt’s horror comeback promised chills but delivered a box office chill of a different kind. Haunted 3D: Echoes Of The Past opened to a surprisingly strong Rs 2.35 crore and rode that momentum to a first-week total of over Rs 13.50 crore, outpacing several rival releases in the process.

Then, week two hit — and hit hard. Collections crashed by a brutal 90%, dropping to just Rs 1.40 crore as Cocktail 2 ate into its screens. The film limped to a final tally of roughly Rs 15.15 crore nett, closing its theatrical run almost as quickly as it began.

Haunted 3D: Echoes Of The Past Ends- Week-By-Week Breakdown

Week 1	Rs 13.50 crore
Week 2	Rs 1.40 crore
Remaining days	Rs 0.25 crore (est.)
Total	Rs 15.15 crore nett

What Went Wrong?

The irony is hard to miss. The original Haunted 3D, released in 2011, was a certified hit and cemented Vikram Bhatt as Bollywood’s go-to name for low-budget horror, thanks to franchises like Raaz. But Echoes Of The Past couldn’t replicate that magic. Despite B-movie production values, the opening numbers hinted at genuine audience curiosity for horror — a genre that’s largely underserved in Hindi cinema right now.

Unfortunately, word of mouth caught up fast. Weekday collections nosedived, and by the time the second Friday rolled around, the film was already fighting a losing battle against fresher competition.

The Silver Lining

Even in defeat, the film’s opening week performance — better than several other simultaneous releases — suggests Indian audiences are hungry for horror content done right. Had the makers invested in sharper production quality, this could have been a different story entirely.
