Halo Infinite getting Slayer and 3 other playlists on December 14th

According to a Reddit post by u/ske7ch343, also known as 343 Industries’ community director Brian Jarrard, Halo Infinite will get Slayer, Free-For-All (FFA), Tactical Slayer (SWAT), and Fiesta playlists (via Windows Central). Jarrard stated the four playlists will be added to the game in a December 14th update.

343 Industries had stated that Fiesta, SWAT, and FFA playlists will be available by the end of the year, but that a Social Slayer playlist would not be available until 2022. Jarrard concedes in his essay that the creators promised a “variety of additional permutations” for the Social Slayer playlist. Because this wouldn’t be finished in time for the holidays, 343 chose to start with a basic Slayer playlist and then “seek to enhance and expand with more varieties” in the future.

Fiesta, SWAT, and FFA playlists will be ready before the end of the year, while a Social Slayer playlist will not be available until 2022, according to 343 Industries. Jarrard admits in his essay that the creators of the Social Slayer playlist promised a “variety of extra combinations.” Because the project wouldn’t be completed in time for the holidays, 343 decided to start with a basic Slayer playlist and then “aim to develop and expand with more varieties” later.

In addition, the update will reduce some challenge criteria, making the weekly ultimate challenge “less rigorous,” and include tasks tailored to the future playlists. 343 is also working on implementing performance-based XP, which is presently unavailable in the game, by creating a challenge category that is “based on accumulated player score.”

Players who want to level up are now only rewarded with XP for completing challenges, not for each game they play. This has been a major gripe among those who want to level up. 343 attempted to address battle pass progression concerns last month by introducing a “Play 1 Game” challenge, lengthening the duration of XP boosts and awarding players with additional XP for the first six matches they play in a day.
