“DMZ week” for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is in full swing. The new trailer spotlights Dynamic Ops, where objectives evolve and every deployment throws something unexpected at you. Infinity Ward has also published a deep dive into Hajin, the war-torn Exclusion Zone where it all happens. Pre-orders are open now.

What Is DMZ?

DMZ is Call of Duty’s take on the extraction shooter: a persistent open-world mode where you loot, complete objectives, fight AI forces and rival Operators, and try to extract with your haul. Fail to get out, and you risk losing it all.

Dynamic Ops: Why No Two Runs Feel Alike

Pick a Dynamic Op before infil, or find a Dynamic Ops phone in the field. Finish it and you earn XP, DMZ Cash and a Supply Drop. The loot gets better with each win, from Common to Uncommon to Rare. Be careful with the Hunt Operators Op, because it sends a full squad of rivals after you.

If you want something lighter, Side Ops let you repair trucks, find lost drops or climb radio towers to reveal where a Lieutenant is hiding.

Hajin’s Biggest Hotspots

Call of Duty
LocationThreat levelWhy it matters
14th Political PrisonHigh to CriticalThe Y-shaped Citadel is a maze of walkways and cell blocks
Chang-san Air BaseCritical to ExtremeA huge underground bunker sits beneath it
The GridCritical to ExtremeA fortified city core full of skyscrapers
Haneul Nuclear ReactorHighSevere radiation, so a gas mask is a must
Imjin FarmlandLow to MediumOpen fields suited to vehicles and squad pushes

Every area shows a Threat Level under your compass. The more noise you make, the stronger the response. Stealth kills with a knife or suppressed weapon keep things calm.

Know Your Enemy

Expect North Korean soldiers in four tiers, from basic grunts to faceless armored troops. Drone swarms, LMG drones, robot K9 dogs and attack helicopters make things harder. At the top are Commanders like Colossus, Deathstalker and a main battle tank.

Taking down a Lieutenant pays well, but its Dog Tag Case shows up on every Operator’s map. If you pick it up, your own position is revealed, so plan a fast exit.

Getting Around

You can drive anything from a sedan to the armored Dreadnought, or take a RHIB boat or a helicopter. Vehicles need repair and fuel at Gas Stations, so keep an eye on the gauge. When radiation closes in, head for an exfil marked by green smoke and hold the site until the Twin Heli arrives. Rivals love to ambush there.

Tips Before You Deploy

  • Loot early, but balance it with combat and objectives for a better rating.
  • Complete DMZ Orders to level up faster.
  • Use NVGs underground, like in the NuriGO Mall tunnels.
