Development Justifies Premium Price

Klaitz told The Escapist that Rockstar began GTA 6 development immediately after finishing GTA 5, with years of continuous work justifying premium pricing. He emphasized buyers essentially purchase multiple games in one, considering the base game, downloadable content, and online modes.

“These games take so long to make. Years and years and years,” Klaitz explained, adding that while he supports making games accessible to more fans, the development scope warrants higher pricing.

Researcher Matthew Ball noted that inflation-adjusted, GTA 4 cost $90 and GTA 5 cost $83 at launch. While essentials like groceries, gas, and streaming services have increased significantly, video game prices remain at “record lows.” However, Ball personally predicts GTA 6 will launch at the standard $70 price point.

Some analysts argue GTA 6 doesn’t need $100 pricing because GTA Online serves as the real revenue generator through microtransactions and ongoing content sales. Sales data shows consumers are willing to pay $80+ for premium titles, but concerns about accessibility remain.

Beyond Pricing: Actor’s Vision

Klaitz also shared ideas for future GTA locations, suggesting Dubai for its contrast between massive skyscrapers and desert environments, or even the North Pole and Greenland. He expressed interest in a live-action GTA TV series, though acknowledged the challenge of translating sandbox gameplay into linear narrative.
