Rockstar Games doesn’t do small reveals, and the GTA 6 Extended Look proved it once again. Premiering on Netflix before hitting YouTube, the presentation delivered a flood of confirmed details that paint Leonida as easily the most ambitious open world the studio has ever built — and the numbers behind it are staggering.

An 80-Hour Story, With Room to Wander Further

Rockstar North Co-Studio Head Rob Nelson told The New York Times that his own playthrough, including some optional objectives, clocked in at roughly 80 hours. He was clear this wasn’t a rushed run either — it reflected the game’s intended pace, letting players enjoy Leonida rather than sprint through missions. For context, that already dwarfs Red Dead Redemption 2’s 50-60 hour main story, and players chasing every side activity, robbery, and exploration opportunity could easily push past 100 hours.

600,000 NPC Animations: A Tenfold Leap

Perhaps the most eye-opening number from the reveal: GTA 6 will feature over 600,000 unique NPC animations, compared to roughly 55,000 in GTA V. Rockstar says this means NPCs will vary far more in body type, expression, and behaviour, reacting differently depending on the situation, conversation, and player actions rather than repeating the same canned responses.

A World Built Around Daily Life, Not Just Missions

The footage showed Jason and Lucia living genuinely lived-in routines — waking up, exercising, grabbing coffee, and going about their day before missions even begin. Players can customize hairstyles and facial hair to dodge police recognition, store weapons and outfits in car trunks, gain weight from overeating, and browse an in-game social media app. Activities range from scuba diving and kayaking to mini-golf and zoo visits, all layered onto a deeper relationship system where spending time with Lucia — shopping, robberies, workouts — genuinely strengthens their bond and can shape story outcomes.

Smarter Police, More Tactical Combat

The overhauled wanted system requires crimes to actually be witnessed or detected before police respond, and law enforcement now remembers what players look like — changing clothes or wearing a mask can throw off identification. Combat has also grown more tactical, with the option to wound rather than kill by targeting limbs.

Why It Matters

Between the map size, animation depth, and story length, GTA 6 is shaping up to be Rockstar’s most technically ambitious release yet. Full details and the Extended Look footage are available via Rockstar Games’ official Newswire.
