GPU prices of AMD RX 6000 and NVIDIA RTX 30 Series GPUs goes down 9% in the first half of March

The greatest graphics cards, as well as previous-generation graphics cards, are becoming more affordable. The GPUs from the previous two generations that were sold on eBay shows a price decline. Some declined by a few per cent, while others, such as the RX 5500 XT, plummeted by 20%. The overall average drop was little under 9%, with a slightly lower 8% drop if we only look at current-generation (RTX 30-series and RX 6000-series) graphics cards.

Since December 2021, GPU costs have dropped by an average of 25%. Of course, the fact that prices were frequently double the official AMD and Nvidia MSRPs in December didn’t help matters. Even after the latest price cuts, median eBay pricing on RTX 30-series cards is still 68 per cent more than Nvidia’s recommended prices, even for the extremely pricey RTX 3080 Ti and 3090. By comparison, AMD’s RX 6000-series cards are only 41% more expensive than the original MSRPs. Returning to the previous generation, Nvidia’s RTX 20-series cards are currently only 9% more expensive than their initial MSRPs, but the GTX 16-series cards are now 47% more expensive. Finally, AMD’s RX 5000-series cards are now 49 per cent more expensive than when they were first released.

Newegg’s prices are nearly the same or better than those shown in the table above. This MSI RTX 3080 10GB card, for example, is presently only $1,127, about $200 less than the eBay price. A Gigabyte RTX 3080 12GB, on the other hand, costs $1,250. The RTX 3070 Ti costs $900, the RTX 3070 $852, the RTX 3060 Ti $660, the RTX 3060 $520, and the new RTX 3050 $400. On the AMD side, prices for the RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT, RX 6800, RX 6700 XT, RX 6600 XT, RX 6600, and RX 6500 XT often match or beat what we’re seeing on eBay, sometimes by a large margin, all without the shuffling mechanism.

Although Amazon’s prices are still significantly higher than those found elsewhere, we’re seeing a growing number of stores hold inventory, with prices steadily reducing week by week. By the second half of 2022, if current trends continue, we could see graphics card prices approaching official MSRPs. That would be fantastic, especially given the upcoming Ada / RTX 40-series and RDNA 3 / RX 7000-series GPUs. By then, perhaps, Ethereum will have transitioned to proof of stake, removing yet another cause for high GPU pricing. However, component shortages and other variables such as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine could stymie progress.
