Gotham Knights will lock the game at 30FPS

Despite the Gotham Knights’ departure from conventional RPG rules, Batman fans are excited to have a game starring a variety of Batman villains. Now that it has recently been revealed that Gotham Knights won’t have a performance mode on consoles, the game’s fans who play it on those platforms have an additional cause to be dissatisfied. Fans aren’t exactly delighted about the concept that the game’s visuals would be fixed at 30 frames per second.

Before Warner Bros. Games issued any formal statements regarding the matter that was on gamers’ minds, various industry insiders reportedly noticed the fact that Gotham Knights did not include a 60FPS mode. Many people have already noted that the performance option was missing from the game’s console release, and Warner Bros. Games has chosen not to respond to fans’ inquiries about the performance mode. However, the game will be restricted to 30FPS, according to a company spokeswoman.

The executive producer of the game, Fleur “Flaoua” Marty, eventually addressed the issue on the Gotham Knights Discord channel by announcing that the performance mode won’t be accessible on consoles.

She went on to say that the untethered co-op capabilities in the incredibly rich open world were the reason the lockout was put in place. She claimed that because of technical game implementations, lowering the resolution to increase FPS isn’t as simple, leading to the aforementioned lockup at 30FPS.

Naturally, some fans didn’t like this, especially because Gotham Knights is a timing-intensive game. It’s important to note that Gotham Knights isn’t the first timing-intensive game; in fact, timing-intensive games were around even before games’ graphics transitioned to 3D.

Even though most early 2D games were capable of running at 60 frames per second, as game complexity rose, 30 frames per second became the norm, where it has remained for the most part of the previous three decades. Gaming at 60FPS is therefore not required, despite the fact that it is not a novelty.

In reality, even 60FPS enthusiasts would concede that a game simply has to deliver a reliable 30FPS framerate to guarantee an uninterrupted gaming experience. Yes, the differences are obvious because 60FPS is much smoother than 30FPS, but consistency is the foundation of outstanding graphics. What use is having 60 frames per second if the game stutters during the most important gameplay moments? The gamers have grown accustomed to having control over their aesthetics on recent-gen platforms, regardless of your position on the FPS debate.

And that’s exactly the problem—the majority of big-name games have both a 60 FPS performance setting and a 4K resolution mode. The creators of Gotham Knights made the decision to implement a single graphics setting with high levels of visual fidelity at the tradeoff of slower frame rates. After all is said and done, it’s not out of the question that the upcoming game may have a Performance mode in one of the upcoming upgrades. In reality, after their initial releases, numerous games added this ostensibly crucial gaming element.

On October 21, Gotham Knights will debut on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Microsoft Windows platforms. The game’s Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions were already scrapped from development.
