Google introduces earthquake alerts for Android in India

Google has made Android earthquake alerts accessible to users in India. Android users can choose between two different alarm types thanks to this feature. This project will help people in the event of an earthquake by helping them to save their lives.

Google’s earthquake alerts for Android details

An earthquake is one of the most common natural disasters in the world, and early warning can play a critical role in helping people prepare and get to safety. In order to locate and estimate earthquakes, Google’s Android Earthquake Alerts System makes use of sensors in Android-powered smartphones.

This new upgrade, which Google has disclosed, has already been put into place in other countries to give citizens early Android earthquake alerts when an earthquake is going to occur.

Users who experience MMI 5+ shaking during a 4.5-magnitude earthquake receive alerts, according to Google. The alert in this situation will play a loud sound and will not follow any notification settings on the system, including Do Not Disturb.

Users are also given advice on what to do in order to protect themselves from the alarm, such as taking cover behind a table.

Google said that multiple Android phones that are observing seismic activity in a given location can help it identify potential earthquakes. According to the business, notifications frequently arrive before a person shakes.

When it detects the initial tremors of an earthquake, an Android phone that is plugged in and charging sends information to a central server, according to Google. The server can identify an earthquake’s characteristics, such as its epicenter and magnitude, if many phones in one area feel similar shaking.

Then, it immediately notifies adjacent Android devices by sending alerts. Since signals and alerts for Android users move over the internet at the speed of light, they will begin to arrive before the shaking becomes more extreme.

All Android users running version 5 or higher in India will soon have access to the Android Earthquake Alerts System. For users to receive notifications, they must have Wi-Fi, cellular data connectivity, Android Earthquake notifications enabled, and location settings enabled. Users who do not wish to get earthquake alerts can turn them off in their device settings.
