Why The Gabby Petito Movie Was So Controversial
When the Gabby Petito movie premiered, it faced immediate backlash. Critics argued the film arrived too soon—just one year after Gabby’s tragic death in 2021. Many felt the production exploited a family’s grief while they were still processing their loss. YouTube comments flooded with concerns about accuracy and ethical concerns surrounding turning real tragedy into entertainment so quickly.
The removal from Netflix suggests the platform may have reconsidered licensing the content due to these controversies or potential legal issues with Gabby’s family. According to Wikipedia’s coverage of notable true crime cases, Gabby’s story captured nationwide attention and remains culturally sensitive.
A Better Alternative: American Murder Documentary
